WHEN DID YOU REALIZE YOU MADE IT?
I actually have two moments that come to mind. The first one was when I got my first paycheck and was able to move out of my mom’s house. The second one was when Angela Bassett called me by name at a party. I walked by and she actually stopped talking to people to talk to me and I was in such awe that I just nodded and smiled the whole time like an idiot. I can’t even remember what she said cause I was just thinking about all the movies I’ve seen her in and how surreal it all was.
WHO WOULD YOU LOVE TO WORK WITH?
Oh God, so many people. Angela Bassett [ laughs ]. Oh and Steve Buscemi and Ava Duvernay and Jordan Peele. And Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland cause I really want to voice a character on Rick and Morty. [ laughs ] Come on, pickle Rick? That shit is amazing.
WHAT DO YOU HATE THE MOST ABOUT BEING FAMOUS?
The word famous. I hate it. What does that even mean? That you’re popular? That’s like, nothing. Who cares? I’m a storyteller. A performer. An entertainer. An actress. Don’t call me famous, man. It bums me out a little.
WHEN DO YOU FEEL MOST BEAUTIFUL?
In sweatpants, hair tied, chillin' with no make-up on. I mean that’s what Drake said and I mean, why would he lie? And yes I assume Drake is always talking about me in his songs. And I’ll continue to believe that unless he tells me differently.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUR YOUNGER SELF?
I wouldn’t. Everything younger me did landed me where I am now. Also, I watch a lot of time travel movies and I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to interact with other versions of yourself. That’s how Marty fucked things up in Back to the Future, right ? [ laughs ] I don’t know how it works exactly.
